There is a saying that the mind is your worst enemy. In our mind it can be a constant battle of what the world says our image should be like, and what God says about us. You probably look in the mirror often throughout the day to see your reflection, or maybe you take a selfie to make sure you looked the same as when you left in the morning. It is in those moments when you see yourself and you instantly reject your image with negative thoughts; those are the thoughts that will fill your mind over and over again when your confidence is down. You may not even have to look in the mirror to have those thoughts come back, but maybe it’s by the way someone looked at you funny, or how you see someone you thought was beautiful. Maybe you think to yourself if only I could look like that person, or have their body shape. We are constantly thinking, and it’s our choice to think negative or positive about ourselves, and others.
Did you know when you reject your reflection it’s like your rejecting God? In Genesis 1:27,31a says- “and God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female He created them.31a. And God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good.” Don’t reject God’s amazing work. For he is our perfect creator and he made no mistakes when he made us. We are to be the reflection of Christ and all that he is. Choosing to change our attitudes towards our reflection, and considering it a blessing of who God made you to be. One of my favorite bible verses is Psalms 139:13-14- “For thou didst form my inward parts; Thou didst weave me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are thy works, and my soul knows it very well.” God knew you at the beginning of times, and he had you specifically picked out and in mind for His purpose. Walk confident, and be content with how God made you.
Rejecting my image was something I use to struggle with. I was so negative towards my image that I wasn’t confident in who God made me to be. I had filled my mind with so many lies that it was hard to undo that damage. There is a lot of pressure from this world of how we should be, and you have to have the best of the best. I finally realized that this world has false expectations of us, but God’s expectations are to come as you are. It doesn’t matter what you have, God’s arms are wide open for all who will come. Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” When I chose to give all my struggles to God I was able to believe that what he says about me was true. So anytime I feel like those lies come back to flood my mind, I choose to think that what God says is true, and walk confident in what God the creator says is true.
Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
I encourage you to not conform to what the world says we should be like, but what God’s will is for your life. Make peace in your mind with who God says you are. For you are fearfully and wonderfully made. Go out and live like you believe this to be true.
Dear God, I pray for the person who is reading this. Please guard their minds from thoughts that cause them to be discontent with how you made them. God you say in your word that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Lord helps those who don’t believe, to find the truth in your word. You made every-single person for a reason, and designed them specifically for your purpose. We give you all the glory and victory for every battle that is over come. In Jesus precious Name I pray Amen.
